Christmas Markets in Sydney
Christmas is the perfect excuse to go shopping. I often end up with just as many items for myself as I do for other people but this year I’m going to try my best to be better.
I’ve started actively looking for special Christmas Markets around Sydney to pick up pressies that are not the usual same old same old but more crafty and individual.
I was a bit surprised when I started my search for Christmas Markets in Sydney as I thought there would be heaps. Unfortunately I’ve already missed a few of the markets that happened the first weekend of December but have vowed to make it to the rest.
Bored of shopping in Sydney?
If there is one thing Sydneysiders know how to do, it’s shop! Downtown has several malls that all have the same chain stores. I swear there are about five Country Road stores within a two-minute walk of each other. I want to mix it up this season; instead of buying something that anyone could get anywhere downtown. It’s definitely time to explore other options and see what’s out there.
As you might have guessed, I’m not the only one bored with the shopping selection in Sydney. There are several new weekend markets appearing each month for new designers and craftsmen to showcase their wares.
Unique Sydney Markets
I recently made it to The Finders Keepers Market at CarriageWorks in Eveleigh. Finders Keepers is a great indie art market with plenty of home wares, kids cloths and jewellery. It’s a good market to pick up something out of the ordinary plus you get to meet the person who made it. It feels good to know you’re contributing directly to the artisan and not a department store.
Night Markets in Sydney
The Christmas Markets happening in the evening are perfect to take the whole family to but you’ll have to split up if you need some quick alone shopping time. Most all of the nighttime Christmas Markets in Sydney have entertainment and food stalls.
So far the best night market is the Village Bizarre in The Rocks. The performances change each week so you could go every Friday and see something new. There are a number of food stalls if you get hungry. I recommend Pony’s Grill Food Stall, you can’t miss it just follow the barbecue scent wafting in the air. Don’t be discouraged by the line, it moves quickly. For dessert, stop by the mini cupcake stall, their small so you can try two.
Below I’ve listed the Christmas Markets I know about ranging from in the City to the Lower North Shore. If you notice any I’ve missed please leave a comment below or on our Facebook page.
Cheers! Hope to see you out at the markets.
